TRUTH & FACTS

Replies to “The Real Ron Hanks” website put up by “PAY-TO-PLAY“ Joe O’Dea’s campaign.

THE TRUTH IS…

  • CLAIM: Joe O'Dea is Endorsed by the NRA.

    FACT: NOT TRUE!

    1. There is no such thing as an “Official State Chapter” of the NRA.

    2. The Colorado State Shooting Association (CSSA) and NRA are separate organizations, with individual sources of financial support.

    3. In conversations last week, the NRA reiterated it has not and will not endorse any candidates in the Colorado US Senate primary race.

    4. Ron Hanks was rated “AQ” by the NRA in Colorado’s 2020 General Election, and “AQ” in 2010, when he ran against a Nancy Pelosi lapdog who helped ram Obamacare through the US Congress.

    5. While NRA will not endorse in the 2022 Colorado US Senate primary, Ron Hanks has received the endorsement of the Gun Owners of America, considered by many to be the premier pro-gun lobby in Washington.

  • CLAIM: Ron Hanks Voted Against Our Kids

    FACT: NOT TRUE!

    1. Hanks voted against Senate Bill 21-017 because it was poorly constructed legislation that created confusion and ambiguity. It made some behaviors criminal for some members of society but not for the others. Equal justice matters. Bad laws cloud it.

    2. Hanks noted relationships between teachers and students 18 years and over are unprofessional and inappropriate, but any such relationships should be governed by the rules of the education institution and the terms of employment.

  • CLAIM: 12 years ago, Ron Hanks ran for Congress in California, only under a different name: Loren Hanks.

    FACT: NOT TRUE!

    1. My opponent has discovered the smoking gun! “Ron” is short for “Loren”. NEWS FLASH: “Joe” is short for “Joseph”! When I filed in California as a first time candidate, I simply filled out the paperwork with my legal name as I thought was required. I later learned I could have filed as the shortened version of Ron that I commonly go by.

    2. When I completed an active-duty assignment in Nevada in 2009, instead of taking another assignment right away, I ran against California Rep. Mike Thompson, a Nancy Pelosi lap-dog. Why? Because OBAMACARE was being forced on the American people and no one else stepped up. I put my own limited money on the line and put my military career on hold, because it was a fight we needed to have.

    3. My opponent did not put his career on hold to fight OBAMACARE. I did.

  • CLAIM: While running in California, Hanks said he supported state and private sector unions.

    FACT: NOT TRUE!

    1. The survey asked “Do you support the ability of workers to unionize?” I believe in a free country workers should have the right to decide to organize or not.

    2. The survey did not ask about state or federal government unions, to which I objected.

    3. I fought against state government unions in the 2022 Colorado legislative session.

  • CLAIM: Hanks said he supported restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns.

    FACT: NOT TRUE!

    1. The survey asked, “Do you support restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns?” I filled in the “Yes” bubble.

    2. At the bottom I added: “A) Law-abiding citizens should not be restricted.”

    3. Felons and those deemed dangerous by a lawful process should not be allowed to have guns.

    4. My other answers from the 2010 survey on “Gun Issues”, confirm I defended the 2nd Amendment. I have fought for our 2nd Amendment rights in the Colorado House.

    5. My opponent has been absent from the fight.

  • CLAIM: Hanks’ position on abortion has changed.

    FACT: NOT TRUE!

In 2010, I stated: “I am pro-life, but I will hold open a measured and narrow window for medical experts – and I am not one – to provide expertise and guidance in specific situations. We should not consider abortion a form of birth control without consequences, nor advocate it as such to our children. We must promote adoption, and remove the shame from carrying a child to term. No federal funding, and this issue would be better addressed by the individual states.”

Rape and incest are grotesque crimes, with psychological impacts. But after prayerful consideration, one should ask, should a child be executed for the crimes of her father? And as we noted in our record-breaking battle on the floor of the Colorado House against a grotesque abortion bill, EVERYONE deserves a birthday. I am Pro-Life. My opponent is not. Period.

  • CLAIM: Hanks has opposed mandatory term limits for members of Congress

    FACT: NOT TRUE!

    1. No source is cited for this claim.

    2. The 2010 survey did not include a question on this issue.

    3. My position on term limits is that I wish we did not need them. But incumbents enjoy an undeserved advantage that leads to undeserved careers in Congress. Structural change is needed to correct this.

    4. I have signed a term-limit pledge, and I introduced a resolution in the Colorado House to call for a convention to achieve term limits and balanced budgets.

  • CONCLUSION:

I have fought for conservative values throughout my 32-year military career, in my run for Congress in 2010, in my service in the Colorado General Assembly, and now in my campaign for the U.S. Senate. Meanwhile my opponent has been getting rich and donating to Democrat politicians.

Which one of us can be trusted to represent your values?
