Meet Ron
Ron Hanks is a military veteran who served around the world and across the United States. Upon retirement in 2017, he was encouraged to run for Colorado's State Assembly, and he was elected in 2020.
Ron's 32 years in the military included time in the active, reserve, and civilian Air Force.
As an active duty enlisted man, Ron served as a linguist (Arabic) on active duty, and supported Desert Storm and other operations, including Northern Watch, Southern Watch, Earnest Will, and El Dorado Canyon.
As a reserve enlisted man, Ron served in a civil engineer squadron (PRIME BEEF), specializing in rapid deployable combat support, "base recovery after attack", including nuclear, biological, and chemical detection, unexploded ordnance detection, and rapid runway repair.
Ron commissioned as an intelligence officer, and after September 11, 2001, he performed duty in Iraq, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates as part of the Expeditionary Air Force and Mobility Air Force units.
Later, he worked as a mission intelligence officer in UAV (drone) combat air operations over Iraq and Afghanistan.
Ron also served in a variety of specialized roles. These included working as a START (nuclear) treaty escort and Chemical Weapons Convention escort for foreign inspectors. He served as a counter-drug officer in Kazakhstan, focused on disrupting trafficking networks linked to extremist groups.
Ron also served as a credentialed counterintelligence agent.
When not deployed or in uniform, Ron worked in the oilfields of North Dakota as a fracking hand. There, he gained firsthand experience with the impact of American energy production, the role of hydraulic fracturing, and the resilience and ingenuity of blue-collar workers.
